Or more likely, she’s just crazy and stupid enough to do the job that law enforcement should be doing but isn’t.

Isn’t it the reason anthroids were built for? To do something faster and better.

As far as I can tell, they were built to be essentially domestic slaves, not as law enforcers. Kind of the difference between a family car and a tank. She wouldn’t have fluffy fur but armored hide, to name one among many problems.

How often have you seen police using a tank? And difference between a civil and police car? There of course some vehicles built specifically for hard tasks, but most of them are civil cars, with only few differences. There is not hard to guess that some of anthroids were designed to not only help in home, but to be able help owner in threat to life situation.

Police forces have tanks, there are a surprising number of old M113s being in service in the USA. Most police cars are repainted and slightly modified civil cars due to economics. They would be bulletproof or bullet-resistant if police departments could afford it and sometimes they try to make them like that.

The problem with your assumption with “help owners in threat to life situation” is that it doesn’t automatically mean “be able to fight”. Far more likely that they would do common-sense measures like calling the police or shield the owner with their own body or even cooperate with the attackers to prevent physical harm. IIRC, they have directives against harming people which would mean inability to harm attackers.

For all we know, there might be purpose-designed police anthroids but the police don’t buy them. But it would be absurd to have anthroids designed to look like people (and even have sex with them) be somehow also designed to do police work (unless its non-field work, like working in an office, be a dispatcher, etc. but if you have AI then you woulnd’t need anthroids for that).

I certainly didn’t expect the conversation on this page to turn to the militarization of the police force… There are some real interesting details you touch on there and some good questions about Anthroids and their design…

The core question of “what were anthroids designed for” or “to be” is significant…

The real questoin for the setting is AI. Anthroids, unless only AIs like them that are extremely specilised for human form exist, are a mere byproduct compared to that. Someone created AI and they utilised it in the creation of what look like domestic slaves. I only gone trough the archives once, but I wouldn’t be surprised if AIs in other forms show up as well.

AI is a massive thing, not just in terms of technology but in terms of philosophy, ethics and future of the creator species. Even if they are not a threat, they pose existencial questions of the species and its identity.
