I often think this. Coding for money, doing art for money, etc–if you remove prejudice from the equation, there are a lot more similarities than differences. You make art that you wouldn’t make of your own accord, write code that is of no personal interest to you, etc.
Even if one personally disagrees with selling sex, one shouldn’t make life harder on people who are doing it. The only time intervention would be appropriate is if there’s a way someone is trapped in it, would prefer to be out of it, and there’s something you can do to help.
Also a lot of people working much MUCH more demeaning jobs, for vastly less compensation, than an escort. Fast food and retail come to mind.
If a girl goes out on a fun date, and the guy pays for everything, and the date ends up in a love hotel… most people would call that recreation, fun, and being treated well and with respect.
Yet somehow, in the minds of those FAR removed from having any actual experience, if a girl goes out on a fun date, and the guy pays for everything, and the date ends up in a love hotel… AND he leaves a few hundred dollars more on the dresser so tomorrow she can pay her rent and buy her kid new shoes… suddenly the whole night is “demeaning” now?
I may never understand how prohibitionists think… presuming of course, that I believed they CAN think without being told what to. >.>
